Call For Papers: Social and Political Thought Graduate Conference

CALL FOR PAPERS: Social and Political Thought Graduate Conference
Deadline for submission of abstract: November 1st, 2012

Technology, Culture and Social Change, a graduate student conference organized and hosted by Acadia University’s Social and Political Thought programme, will take place at Acadia University in Wolfville NS, from the 23rd-24th of March 2013.

Human cultures and technology are continually co-evolving in a dynamic relationship. The last ten thousand years have seen unceasing innovation and technological development involving materials, energy, language and communication, transportation, and other developments, with transforming effects on our social organization, business, prosperity, beliefs, values, governance, health and well-being. From a boom in user generated web content to major advances in hybrid vehicles, and from the widening availability of self-serve kiosks to the emergence of space tourism, it is easy to see that the twenty-first century has both given birth to and been profoundly influenced by technological evolution. But what implications for the human experience does technological change carry? How has technology shaped societies across the globe historically and in recent times? In what ways is it necessary for us to renew our understanding of society and culture in the light of perpetual technological development?
Papers focusing on any area of the relationship between technology, society, politics and culture and from a variety of disciplinary and cross-disciplinary angles including Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, Anthropology and Economics are welcome.
We invite applicants to submit a 250-350 word abstract for a paper by the deadline above. Please email abstracts to **acadiasptconf2013@gmail.com**. Proposals should include the applicants name, program and institution, contact email, and should be sent as a Word document (.doc), OpenOffice document (.odt) or PDF file (.pdf).
If you have any questions, we encourage you to contact us at acadiasptconf2013@gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you,

Acadia SPT Graduate Conference Organizing Committee
